Total Slacker

Ok, so I am a total slacker, I know. I hate getting behind on this because I never want to catch back up because there is so much to do. I don't think I'm going to blog on all of the books I've read since I posted last time because I don't remember what I have read or when I read them. So I'll get back up on that from now on.

Let's see here, what has happened since January?

BIRTHDAY SHOUTOUTS!

First things first: 1/10/10-HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!! You turned the big 39, hehe. I love you so much Mom and I am so grateful for all that you do for me!

Next: 1/18/10-HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALEX AND JEN!!! I miss you guys so much! It was great seeing you at Spring Break! I have so many great memories from you guys throughout high school and I wish we lived closer, oh well.

Next: 3/6/10-HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD AND GRANDMA KENNEDY!!! Dad turned the big 41 and Grandma never gets old, hehehe. I love you Dad for all that you do for me and all the support you have given me since I have left the nest. I love you so much Grandma and I miss seeing you. Hopefully I'll be able to see you at my wedding!

Last: 4/4/10-HAPPY BIRTHDAY CONNOR!!! I CANNOT believe that you are 12 years old now! Where has all the time gone? I remember holding you as a baby and changing your diaper. When you broke your arm, you learned real quick what a weapon that cast made. I really wish I could have been there for your birthday, especially your birthday party! You're so lucky that you get to go play laser tag! That is so much fun! I love you so much Connor and I bet you will be taller than me by the time I see you at my wedding.

SPRING BREAK

For Spring Break, my Mom came up to Utah and helped me plan my wedding. Mom thought I had more done than I did and was a little annoyed that it wasn't, but everything turned out fine. We got all of my center pieces together, got my shoes for the wedding day, got my photographer and makeup/hair taken care of and more than I can remember now. We got to go back to Fallon, NV for a day or two for my bridal shower that was being thrown. Unfortunately, Mom killed my car right when we got to Fallon. She ran my car out of gas (Which I have NEVER done before in my life) and it killed my fuel pump. So she spent all day Saturday, the day of my bridal shower (before my party though) trying to get it fixed. She managed to get a guy to come out and fix my car and still make it to my party, so that was great. I had so much fun at my party and it was great seeing so many people from church. I miss everybody so much and it was so great seeing Mom for a week. I definitely can't wait to see you again in July, I love you so much Mom! I do have some pictures from my bridal shower that I will get on here.

Proposal Pictures

I don't have pictures personally from when Spencer proposed to me, but the guy that took the pictures for us has a website that the pictures are on. If you are interested in seeing the pictures, click here. The pictures are copyrighted, which is why I didn't just put them on here.

Anything else?

I can't think of anything else in particular to blog about, I think I am caught up for the most part. All I have been doing lately is go to school, work and finalize on wedding plans. I spend a lot of my spare time, when I actually remember too at least, getting the paper for my invitations cut out. Once I get that finished I can actually start putting them together, which will be nice, they are so cute! All I know is that I can't wait for July! That means that school will be over (Thank Goodness!) and it means all of my wedding planning will be done and I will be happily married!

Oh!

Oh I just remembered, so I do have this crazy story to tell.

Spencer and I are on this waiting list to get into an apartment once we are married. We decided to check in on them and see where we were on the list. We go in there and she asks for our name, so Spencer gives his name first. She types in his last name and it pops up "Eric Hickenlooper", which is his brother. We tell her that's not us and give her my name, which brings up us. We find that we are like #175 for a two-bedroom apartment and number #145 for a one-bedroom apartment. She asks us if Eric was still looking for an apartment, we tell her that he moved to Arizona and so, no, he wasn't. She tells us that Eric is #1 on the waiting list because he signed up in 2008 and that if he called in and asks them to replace our name with his that she could get us an apartment tomorrow! How cool is that? So instead of not knowing when we would be getting an apartment, we now know that when we are ready to move in, we can move in immediately. Totally awesome!

I'M ENGAGED!!!

So Spencer finally popped the question on Friday, November 2o, 2009. I said, "Yes!" I like this picture, I had put my finger over the flash, and it makes the ring look pretty.
So the question everybody has on their mind is: How did he propose? Well, Spencer was coaching a Trappers game on Friday. The Trappers are the traveling mens' league team based in Logan, UT. Because Spencer still isn't fully recovered from breaking his ankle and so he was offered a coaching spot on the time. Well the game was a slow game, not much happened. So I was thinking that I might get up and get something from the concessions stand or go to the bathroom during the break between the second and third period. So I was getting my motivation to get up and get moving when I noticed that only the opposing team had gotten off the ice. The Trappers were still on the ice.

Then the guys on the team all knelt down on the edges of the big face-off circle in the middle of the ice. As I was trying to figure out what was happening, the captain, Shimmell, got a microphone and said, "Will Makayla Schmelter please come down to the ice." I sat there shocked, wondering if he really said my name because he did sound a little garbled. Then he said again, "Is Makayla Schmelter here?" Spencer's roommate, Mike, said that they were asking for me. By this time I knew what was going to happen. So I stood up, Shimmell asked if I was Makayla Schmelter, and then he motioned me down to the ice. So I get down to the door, someone opens it for me, and Shimmell and Paul, a defenseman, offered me their arms so I wouldn't fall. They escorted me to the middle of the ice and Spencer was standing there. He kneels down on one knee, pulls out a beautiful box, and Shimmell hands him the microphone. He says into the microphone, "Makayla, will you marry me?" and opens the box and shows my beautiful ring. Of course I said, "Yes" and put the ring on my finger. We got the loudest cheering and whistling and horn blowing of the entire game. It was embarrassing but sweet. Before we left the ice, Spencer had Scott, the guy who takes all of the pictures for the hockey games, take some pictures of us. I don't know when he started snapping pictures, hopefully he took one of Spencer proposing, we will find out in a couple of days.
So here is my beautiful ring. I picked it out myself. Spencer had no idea which one to get me when we went ring browsing. This picture has both the engagement ring and the wedding band with it. The wedding band goes underneath the diamond. I think it looks prettiest with both the wedding band and engagement ring together, so I wear them both. So, here is the romantic story of how Spencer proposed to me.

HAPPY TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY, SPENCER!

Happy Two Year Anniversary, Spencer! I have loved every minute that I have spent with you these last two years. I have not regretted any moment we have been together. I cannot wait until we are married. I look forward to that day and can't wait for this next year to fly by. I love you so much and I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with you!

I'm Updating!

I know, I'm a slacker. I am in the process of updating my blog right now. I have to transfer my pictures over from my camera to my computer and then I will update the blog. I'll be updating about my new apartment, my new car that I got back in February, and I'll do a quick blurb about Spencer.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!

I am 20 years old now if you can believe it. I know this is late, my birthday was on May 11. I had a great birthday, Spencer had a doctor's appt in Salt Lake and so we spent the day in Salt Lake for my birthday. On May 9, Spencer took me to shoot paintballs out in the mountain. That was fun. We painted all the rocks near us red and yellow. Here's me looking cool shooting the gun, or at least holding the gun since we shot all the paintballs.
So for my birthday, Spencer got me ice skates. We had to shop around to find a pair that fit my smallish feet. Fortunately, since my feet aren't huge and ice skates are in men's size, I could actually get Junior skates and those are cheaper than regular skates.
So what do you guys think? Spencer convinced me to get pink laces and so my skates are nice and girly. Hehe. Spencer took my to Ruby Tuesday for dinner. I got myself a steak dinner with delicious potatoes and broccoli. It was very yummy.
I have more pictures on my new camera that Mom and Dad got me and I so when I find the cord that I need to transfer the pictures, I will update this again.

Valentine's Day

Three hearts
I Love You
You're The Greatest
Three Hearts
I Love You

This Valentine's Day, Spencer got me a bear that sings "Hey There Delilah" by: Plain White T's and the bear has a rose that twirls around and says "I love you", has three hearts that show up, and says "You're the Greatest". He also got me two dozen roses, a box of chocolates, and a big stuffed dog. The roses are absolutely beautiful and I loved them.

I HATE YOU, CAR!!!

Ok, so I officially HATE my car. I took my car in yesterday to see what the problem was with it. It has been having a lot of white smoke coming from the tail pipe and having problems running. When the guy called back to give me the diagnosis, I just thought, "Crap!". There are four cylinders in my car and one of the cylinders, or the piston in the cylinder, was either cracked or it was missing the rings at the top of the cylinder. So he said I would have until this summer to get a new car before my car died on me.

Well he was wrong.

My car died today, it committed suicide in my opinion. I am trying to leave Spencer's apartment complex and I get to the entryway/driveway to the parking lot and it dies. I'm sitting there trying to get it started again and it just won't start for me. I call Spencer, who was about to take a nap, and tell him, so he walks over. While I am waiting for him, I still try to get my car started, not happening. He gets over, tries to start and the battery has died on me. So he went to get his Jeep so he could jump me. While I am waiting for him, I pop my hood and get my jumper cables. The garbage man for Spencer's complex comes over and asks if I need help.

The funny part about this is that when my car first died, the garbage man had gone into the copmlex to get the garbage. When it came time to try and jump my car, he was getting ready to leave. He looks under my hood and tries to see if he could help, although he couldn't do anything because my car was beyond normal repair. Spencer comes over, hooks up to my car, and tries to get it to start and my car refuses to cooperate, even with the Jeep giving it juice. So Spencer and the garbage man pushes my car back over to the front of Spencer's building.

So I am without a car until I can get a new one. I'll keep you updated.

Went Home For Christmas

So I know that this is kinda late, but I needed to blog this. This is from 12/18/08-1/2/09, that was when I was in Texas.

So I went home for Christmas, and home for me is now in Texas. It is weird thinking of that as home since I never lived there, but that is where my family is and family is what makes a house, or place, home. I was so excited to go home too. In the weeks leading up to it, I just got so excited. I mean, I hadn't seen my family since July so I had good reason to be excited. When I got to Texas, my mom picked me up from the airport. It was so great seeing her! I absolutely love my mom, she is my best friend!!! By the time I got to the house, none of the kids were home yet from school, but my dad was there and so I got to talk with him before the chaos of the kids flying at me.

As soon as Karissa saw me, she ran and almost tackled me into the couch. Connor was a little more subdued and just gave me a big hug. Karissa made me a little booklet that was absolutely adoreable. I'll have to put up a couple of the pictures on here, just to show how cute they were.

So as soon as I got home and put my stuff in Karissa's room, we went out and took family pictures for the Christmas newsletter. I thought that they were cute pictures. You can look at my mom's blog for pictures of those. It was a little chilly, but not as cold as it was here in Logan before I left. The very first picture we took involved us kids climbing a tree. I am not exactly scared of heights, I'm just leery of them. Especially climbing up and down a narrow branch. Plus I was in jogging pants and I didn't want those ruined. My parents should have told me what we were doing so I could change into jeans.

I think one of the first things I did when I got home was play Guitar Hero with Brittney. She wanted to battle me and when we battle, I'm playing medium and she is playing hard. This is the only way that we are actually competition for each other. The funny part is that everytime it gets to sudden death, I always win. I don't know how I do it, but I always do.

So on Christmas Eve, we went to the Gaylord Texas Ice Show. We got to see a bunch of ice sculptors. They were really cool. I was wearing two pairs of pants, a long sleeve shirt, my nice jacket, and the parka that they gave us. I was also wearing a pair of gloves. I was still a little bit cold. They have to keep the rooms like 9 degrees so the sculptors don't melt. You can see more pictures here on my mom's blog.

For Christmas, I got quite a bit of stuff. I got money to get 2 pair of pants and 2 shirts. I got The Summoning by: Kelley Armstrong, cute dishes, silverware, airbake cookie sheet, cookie rack, and an eagle calendar from Mom and Dad. From Brittney, I got a really cute necklace that had three hearts on it. From Grandma Schmelter, I got a pair of fuzzy socks and a $15 iTunes gift card. From Mother Liz, I got a $20 Barnes and Noble gift card. And then, of course, I got myself a bunch of books for Christmas. Mom took me to a bargain bookstore and I felt like a kid in a candy shop. I was almost lost as I tried to find out which books to get and to not spend too much money.

On my flight back to Utah, everyone except Brittney went to the airport with me. Brittney had to work. Mom and Karissa went into the airport with me. Karissa did not want to let me go when it came time for me to go through security. It was so cute and so sad. I definitely miss them a whole bunch! I can't wait to see them again!

First Snow

So we had our first snow storm today. It kinda sucked but now the waiting game is over. It snowed a good 4 inches in the space of about 6 hours, from the time I went to sleep, at 6 am this morning to when I woke up at 12 pm it had the 4 inches. Then at around 3 or 4, I think, it started snowing again. It was not fun driving to work in that.

Catching Up

Ok, so if you have been watching my blog lately, you will see a bunch of blogs on certain days that weren't there before then. That is because I am now catching up on my blog. Mom got on me today because I have been lazy and haven't blogged lately. So I repented and did this during work. And sorry it has been so long since I have blogged, I have been lazy, but I have also been busy. It seems like all I do is school and work. I seem to be buried in heaps of homework, especially from my accounting class and my calculus class. I enjoy accounting, I don't enjoy calculus.

Got a New Hairdo!

So I got my hair colored blonde and got it cut again today. It is crazy to see my reflection because I am not used to seeing myself as a blonde. I will get pictures up here as soon as I can. I think it looks good.

GOT TO GO HOME!!!

I finally got to go home to see my family! It was great fun and I'm so glad I have finally got to go. I haven't seen my family since Christmas, and I won't be able to see them again until this Christmas, sadness!!!

So I had an early morning flight, as usual, which sucks for me. And I worked Monday night till 11:30. So i got off work and then packed my car, checked oil and tires and everything like that, and then realized I didn't have directions to my grandma's house. So I called Spencer and he got the directions for me. After all of that, I didn't leave Logan till 12:30 I think. So that didn't put me at my grandma's house until 2. I had a hard time falling asleep, so I don't think I went to sleep until 2:15-2:30. I had to get up at 4:45. I was not happy. I got up, my grandma took me to the airport, and I checked in and everything and was waiting and ate a poptart for breakfast. Now I'm feeling slightly nauseous, which always happens when I fly early early in the morning. So it took awhile to eat.

I took my flights and I ended up sleeping on my second flight, which was great. My mom picked me up at the airport and I was so glad to see her! I love my mom, she is my best friend and I was just filled with absolute happiness at seeing her. I couldn't give her a hug until we went to a store for something because she wasn't able to find a place to park to meet me inside the airport, which was ok.

We did random stuff on Tuesday, lots of pictures and being bombarded by Connor and Karissa, especially Karissa. Oh, and I almost forgot, we went and saw Dark Knight, such a good movie. On Wednesday, we went to Six Flags, which was an absolute blast! Although my feet hurt so bad before the day was halfway done, oh well. On Thursday, I don't remember exactly what we did, I don't think it was a lot. I don't remember. on Friday, we went boating. It would have been a lot of fun except for the fact that the lake was really rough and so skiing wasn't fun and I hurt myself tubing. We left pretty early, but it was still fun being with the family. Oh, and we also did family pictures Friday morning, and we haven't done those in forever.

Mom and I also did a book exchange. I brought I don't know how many books and I took 54 books, and a couple of those were my books that I had left there over Christmas. I miss my family already and I can't wait to see them again!

Colored My Hair

I colored my hair last Thursday. I am now an almost-blonde. My hair is definitely lighter than before, but it is not truly blonde. It is an interesting color. I don't know if you can tell in these pics. The first pic is a pic from Christmas, you can see that the color there is definitely darker than the second pics.

Happy Birthday to Me and Happy Mothers' Day to Mom!

Mothers' Day was on Sunday as everybody knows. I spent Mothers' Day at my Grandpa Barlow's new house. I had a lot of fun there and I really love Grandpa's new house, it is absolutely beautiful! I got Mom a Willow Tree figurine called "Mother and Daughter", maybe Mom will put a picture of it up on her blog, but I thought it was really cute! Happy Mothers' Day MOM!!!

My birthday was also on Sunday, and I turned 19. I went up Saturday to see my aunt Lydia, who is younger than I am. She took me to Ross and bought me two shirts and that night, we went to this kids house. His name was Hyrum and I guess I'm related to him somehow, but whatever. We had fun playing cards and getting two other kids drunk as heck. They were really funny and way easy to mess with their heads. For my birthday, I got some groceries from Mark and Keely and they gave me money to see Iron Man again. Brad, Kelsy and Kendal all gave me a $30 gift card to Borders'. Grandpa and Ann gave me a $25 gift card to Barnes and Noble and they gave me a pair of flip flops and a t-shirt.

Tax Frustration

So I went to get the application for my residency on Monday. The girl at the counter gave me the paperwork I needed and proceeded to tell me everything that I needed to know, than she said that I could not be claimed on my parents taxes. Now, Dad and I had decided for them to claim me because we thought the FAFSA needed it, but that conflicts with getting my residency. I have already filed my taxes and gotten my return, I got $179 back. Well I talked to my financial aid advisor and she said that for me to get my residency, Mom and Dad can't claim me for 2007, if they do, I have to wait until Spring 2009 to get my residency, which would suck. So today, I went to get my taxes amended. I just went to the VITA on campus, they did my taxes. I get there and tell them I needed my taxes amended and the girl who was going to help me immediately calls over someone else and asks what to do. He tells me at first that they didn't do amendments. He then decides to just help me himself so he takes me over to his computer. He proceeds to tell me that he wasn't sure how long it would take or if it would work, but he wanted to help so I wouldn't have to go to an accountant and pay them to help me. After 30 minutes, he finally finishes and prints it off and tells me that I have to mail it in. I was like, "ok, no problem". The catch was that the IRS might deny my amendment because I can be claimed on my parents taxes. I have to wait until my amendment gets there, and then an indefinite time before they get back to me to tell me if my claim was passed or denied. This sucks! I need to be independent or else I can't get my residency, I think I'm going to go to my advisor tomorrow or Friday and explain to her what is going on and to see if that will affect my getting residency, hopefully everything goes good! Pray for me! Love you all!

My Car

So I finally unburied (is that a word? I dunno know.) my car today. I started about 5-10 minutes after Spencer brought me home, which was around 3 I think, and I didn't finish until about 5. I was out there forever! My arms were so tired when I was done too. I forgot how heavy snow could be. There was a lot of snow to move as you can see. I'm very glad that I finally did it though!

Valentine's Day!

So for Valentine's Day, Spencer and I hung out as usual. I got him Phase 10, a frog that makes kissing noises (which was so totally cute!), and a pack of gum. He got me a card that was really cute, 3 roses, a stuffed puppy, and he took me out to ice cream! It was really sweet! We watched the first half of Varsity Blue before he had to take me home because he left today to go to Montana; which is sad for me, but oh well.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Crazy Weather

So today we had some CRAZY weather. On Monday and Tuesday, the weather was in the 40's and it was sooo nice! It was soo warm and I was so excited! Than today, it was pretty warm this morning, and clear too. At about 11:30, it started to snow, and I mean REALLY snow. It was dumping on us. When Spencer took me back up to campus for Institute at 1:20, there were already roads that were being blocked off. When I left Insitute at 3, it looked like there was a blizzard outside. It was absolutely crazy! It was snowing so hard! So I make a mad dash for the TSC and the comfort of being inside and I start wandering around the Bookstore, just to see what there was. I saw some stuff that I would like to buy as Christmas presents, I'm thinking early for once. While I am wandering around, Spencer calls to see how I am doing and to tell me that there is a blizzard outside, not that I didn't know that already =). I told him that I was not looking forward to walking to my math class, because my math class is about a 7 min walk that is mostly outside, I can cut through some buildings, but I would still be outside most of the time. Spencer asked if I had a test in math today, I told him "no" and he suggested I skip class because of the bad weather. I had already contemplated skipping class, so he just helped me decide quicker. He picked me up and we went swimming for about 2 hours, it was so nice. The pool was warm and the hot tub was very hot, it was great! When I got home, which was about an hour ago, I was talking to Keely and she told me that all the classes after 3:30 approx. were cancelled, so I didn't have a math class to go to. It was great! The weather here is pretty crazy, but I hope it stops soon so I can get my car safety inspected and registered.

Christmas Present Exchange Finally

Well Spencer and I finally exchanged our Christmas presents that we got each other. A little late, I know, but we both ordered them late and so the gift I got Spencer came in on Monday and I think that that is when the gift that Spencer got came in as well. Well I got Spencer two shirts from the Colorado Avalanche, which is Spencer's favorite hockey team. It is a three-in-one shirt because it came with a short sleeve shirt and a long sleeve shirt and then you can layer them and make a different shirt. He looked like he really liked it. What Spencer got me was the first season of "Lost". Now the funny thing about this is that Dad got Mom that for her birthday, although I was the one to buy it for him, so that is how I knew she got it. Now the funny part is that when I bought it, I was telling Spencer about how I was so jealous that she got the first season, and by this time, he had already bought it, so he was just laughing inside. And then when I told Mom last night that I got the first season, she was saying how jealous she was that I got it. So this morning, Mom and I were laughing about it. It was great!
